Our partnership with Le Cordon Bleu is only the latest development in the Academy's evolution. The school opened as a culinary arts college in 1977, when San Franciscan Danielle Carlisle bought an old downtown brick building, stocked it with four kitchens, and brought in a handful of chefs and 20 students. Her mission was to give future chefs, pastry chefs, personal chefs and caterers - as well as others interested in the hospitality industry - a true European-style culinary education worthy of the finest cooking schools, by combining hands-on classes with real-world experience in restaurants. Thanks to this partnership, we can offer Le Cordon Bleu training in California.
Fueled by an increasing demand for culinary professionals who could hit the ground running, the Academy quickly grew. To accommodate the rapid enrollment growth, Carlisle moved the Academy in 1985 to its present location, the historic California Hall at 625 Polk St. By then, the Academy had grown to enroll more than 400 students, and ten years later became a publicly traded company. In 2000, we were acquired by one of the largest providers of private, post-secondary education in North America. California Culinary Academy celebrates the achievements of its past and looks forward to furthering its tradition of teaching excellence.

Historic California Hall in downtown San Francisco, is the nerve center of this hospitality school and culinary academy. Since we teach various aspects of hospitality and restaurant management, you can expect to find an extensive hospitality and restaurant facility here. From training kitchens and student-staffed restaurants, to mixology and gaming rooms for practicing bar and casino operations, the Academy has the environment where you can learn and apply the skills you'll need in your future hospitality career.
Other distinctive classroom features include a Basic Skills Laboratory for the development of fundamental culinary skills, management training, lecture classrooms designed for wireless network access, a computer classroom with individual student workstations for learning industry-current software, and the Academy library which houses an extensive stock of current culinary, hospitality, and restaurant periodicals, along with texts and videos to supplement classroom and workshop instruction. Additional educational facilities are conveniently located at 700 and 735 Polk Street.
